Consider
- First, consider whether you want DC fans or AC fans. In the past, the higher cost of DC fans led to the almost exclusive use of AC fans. Now that this price differential has disappeared, the many advantages of DC fans make them the best choice. One advantage of DC fans is longer life. Another is almost 60% less power consumption than AC fans. According to industry experts, a 10°C increase in fan temperature can reduce its life by as much as 20,000 hours.
- Another selection factor is that the speed of DC fans is directly proportional to voltage, so it can run at the speed required for adequate cooling. However, usually DC fans runs at less than maximum speed, creating less noise, and using less power.
With Axial fans, the air enters and leaves the axial fans in the same axial direction. Typically the air volume in these axial fans are relatively high (dependant upon the frame, size and motor), and the pressure, measured in inches of H2O is on the lower end of the scale. The greatest variety of size and airflow performance is offered in axial fans (25mm - 172mm with airflow of 2cfm - 350cfm).

Installation Method:
For either the suction or exhaust type, horizontal, vertical or inclined installation can be selected.
Protection:
Motor burnout is prevented by the impedence system or thermal protection system, thus safety is always insured.
Impedance System:
The fixed impedance of the coil keeps the specified temperature below that specified by the insulation class of the motor coil.
Thermal Protection System:
The coil includes a bimetallic strip to control the connection switch. This operates to keep the temperature below the specified insulation class.
Blowers
Cross flow blowers are unique in that they are designed for large surface airflow needs as found in appliances or air curtains. Air is circulated twice through the impeller blades before exiting the fan. The cross flow blowers are more suitable for high flow and low pressure applications.
Centrifugal blowers require a scroll to enclose the impeller to generate pressure. Air enters axially and is exited radially while being directed at a focused right angle for spot cooling. Centrifugal blowers generally have a low airflow and high pressure. Efficiency is lower than that of axial fans and the impeller is typically smaller as well. Noise concerns must be taken into account when considering these fans as they have much higher dBA levels.
